VHS

VHS

VHS was a game made for KUCC (Kathmandu University Computer Club). The theme of the game was exploration and discovery, so what better way to capture that than wandering through spaces that feel alive?

Concept & Atmosphere

Tape One: The Tunnel
You have to investigate a body and run away from a killer.

Tape Two: The Forest
Dense, tangled, impossible to ignore. You have to find all of the missing posters

Exploration & Discovery
The core of the game is a detective looking at old cascattes (in BahunOs which is interactive to some extent). Each VHS tape is important and the player has a suprise ending (to those who watch the vhs) at the end if they complete the game

Development & Release

Game Jam Roots
Created in July 2024 for the KUCC Monthly Game Jam. The pressure of the jam forced decisions, limited scope, and focused the experience on tension, atmosphere, and subtle storytelling.

Release
The trial version was made available for Windows players, small in size but large in impact. Every texture, every audio clip, and every environmental cue was chosen to create a lasting sense of unease and curiosity.

Audio
Original music composed by @renshh, helping to anchor the tension and mood throughout the experience.

Experience

VHS was designed for fun, i did NOT intend it to be that scary hehe

The game is short, but every second is designed to make the player look, listen, and think.

Conclusion

VHS was a project about noticing, about making the player feel small in spaces that are bigger than themselves. Exploration isn’t just moving forward it’s questioning, observing, and feeling the world through small moments. The game exists as a brief, intense experience meant to make player nostalgic, as the way old tapes do!.
